Country Rhodes Farm is a family farm that was established out of a love for farming and wanting to provide the public with a quality of meat that cannot be matched in grocery stores. David and Judy, owners, live on a small farm in Maurertown, Virginia. The property has been in the Rhodes Family for generations,
David and I moved back to the farm in the year 2000. He drives a transport truck while I manage the farm. However, farming is a 24/7/365 business. We have over 100 animals, give or take a few dozen, at any given time, so when David isn't on the road, he stays busy with farm work.
We feel blessed that we've been able to raise our four children in this environment. Farming has taught them a solid work ethic, shown them the value in caring – and caring well – for other living things, provided them confidence to solve problems, and taught them how to work on their own as well as part of a team. Our grown children, now with jobs and children of their own do as much to help as possible.
Our children (meaning our entire family!) have been active over the years in both the local chapters of the 4-H Club and the National FFA Organization (FFA), organizations that support the lessons they learn on the farm while providing opportunities to become leaders. We hope our appreciation and dedication to farming is passed on to our grandchildren. We are so proud of them all and blessed beyond measure!
The business started small, only selling beef and pork. This was around the year 2006. As time passed many other products have been added. Lamb, from another local farm, as well as an assortment of cheese, milk products, chips, peanuts, and so much more can be found on our table at the local farmers’ markets that we attend. We love to represent other hard working local farms and help them as they grow their businesses.
In the year 2020 we took over the chicken, chicken egg, and vegetable business from Fairview Oaks Farm. Lizzie spearheaded this project and it has been a great addition. We are so thankful for the time and patience from Mr. Jim Hepner in helping us transition into chickens! His advice on layer chickens and processing the meat birds has been so valuable and we have enjoyed the friendship established with he and his wife Kathy.
Growing the vegetables also came with this addition. This has been a learning process as we gradually add to the list of items that we raise. We established a relationship with a fabulous farm, Spring Valley Farm and Orchard, that has been amazing in their support of providing those vegetables as well as fruits, that we currently are unable to raise ourselves.
We have grown over the years and we hope that as we continue to do business, our customers, or friends as we refer to them, will continue to see the love and dedication that we have for what we do.
